LOS ANGELES, CA -- A driver accused of injuring eight people after a wrong-way, DUI crash sent his U-Haul truck into a crowd in downtown Los Angeles Sunday has been identified.
The collision occurred just before 1 a.m. near Spring and 7th streets, according to authorities from the Los Angeles Police Department Central Traffic Division.
Michael Maurice Wilson, 40, is accused of traveling eastbound on 7th Street westbound lanes when he hit a parked vehicle and lost control, crashing with a motorcycle and another vehicle going southbound on Spring Street and turning westbound onto 7th Street, according to the LAPD.
The U-Haul truck lost control and struck four pedestrians on a sidewalk before shearing a hydrant and a light post.
The injured also included the motorcyclist and three people in the vehicle that was hit.
The victims were all treated with non-life threatening injuries. Wilson was not hurt, LAPD police said.
Police said the Wilson confessed to smoking marijuana before the crash. He was taken into custody at the scene and was booked for felony DUI charges.
