The world could soon run out of chocolate, mainly because we love to eat chocolate. A lot of it it seems.

Mars and Barry Callebaut, which are two of the world's biggest chocolate makers, released data showing the world is eating chocolate faster than farmers can produce it, the Washington Post reports.

Last year for example, people ate about 70,000 metric tons more cocoa than was produced. By 2030, the predicted shortfall will grow to 2 million tons. And so on.

Adding to the problem is a drought in West Africa and an aggressive fungal disease targeting the plants. Chocolate sales also keep growing around the world, especially in China.
