Five firefighters suffer heat exhaustion battling NW Harris County blaze

CYPRESS, TX -- Firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion while battling a three-alarm blaze at a granite counter-top business in northwest Harris County.

The fire started at a business in the 200 block of Jack Rabbit near Highway 290 and West Road and grew to three alarms. It took firefighters more than two hours to extinguish the blaze, though they're still out there monitoring the situation and putting out any hot spots.

Firefighters with the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department, Jersey Village, Spring, Houston, Northwest and Cypress Creek fire departments are at the scene.

A total of five firefighters suffered some type of injury. Four were suffered heat exhaustion, but only one was transported to a hospital for treatment. A fifth firefighter was transported to a hospital as a precaution for a facial laceration.
