Today marks 9th anniversary of deadly BP plant explosion in Texas City

Fifteen people were killed and 170 people were injured during the March 2005 BP oil refinery explosion.

Today marks a somber anniversary for the people of Texas City. It was nine years ago today the BP oil refinery exploded, killing 15 people and injuring 170 more.

It happened when liquid waste fumes ignited in an older blowout tower.

The blast on March 23rd, 2005 exposed flaws in job safety agencies leading to rule changes at oil refineries across the nation.
