Two arrested in case of cabbie killed in SW Houston

HOUSTON

The taxi driver was murdered at the Camden Vanderbilt apartments in southwest Houston. Neighbors in the area are breathing a sigh of relief knowing one suspect is arrested. But the investigation is still ongoing.

Eyewitness News learned investigators have now charged Jock Quinn Wilson, 28, in the murder of United Cab driver Donalvon Rhyne.

Wilson was arrested Tuesday and is now in Houston police custody. A second suspect was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Sealy, but his name has not yet been released.

Rhyne, 52, was killed late last Thursday night after dropping off a customer at the Camden Vanderbilt apartments on Brompton. Investigators say surveillance video showed two men approaching the victim's taxi as he was doing paperwork.

Detectives say there was a struggle during a robbery attempt. Rhyne was shot and killed as the suspects ran from the scene. The taxi driver wasn't discovered until the next morning when a neighbor by the complex noticed him slumped over in the cab.

Earlier this week, the veteran taxi driver and former air force sergeant's family spoke to us about his violent murder.

Widow Pamela Rhyne said, "It's just senseless. He drove a cab for so long and he was always safe. We never even thought something like this could happen in this city."

Wilson has been charged with capital murder. It's a tough day for Rhyne's widow and children, as they are in the process of making funeral arrangements.
