James Dolan Osborne was sentenced Thursday in Fort Worth, one day after jurors in Tarrant County convicted him of assault on a family member and injury to the elderly.
Prosecutors say Osborne had moved in with his grandmother and uncle last year. His uncle went into the hospital for leukemia shortly afterward, leaving Osborne and his grandmother alone in the Fort Worth house.
Authorities accused Osborne of walking into a room one night in October, threatening to kill his grandmother, then beating her and once choking her until she lost consciousness.
Osborne has an extensive criminal record that includes convictions for aggravated assault and drug possession.
