House fire on Houston's south side gives firefighters trouble

HOUSTON

They were called to a home on Lakefield near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and found the house in flames.

Crews tried to get water out of the closest hydrant, but it didn't work. It fell apart when crews tried to connect to it.

Instead, they had to use a hydrant down the street to extinguish the fire. The incident caught firefighters by surprise and took some extra time, but the flames were brought under control quickly.

Officials are investigating the cause of the blaze. There is no word on any injuries.
