Cold front brings chilly temperatures to SE Texas

The gusty north winds have been blowing cold air into southeast Texas all day. The afternoon high temperature was only 52 degrees in Houston, almost thirty degrees colder than it was Sunday.

Tonight, when the winds relax, the atmosphere will cool even more. Most neighborhoods away from the coast will drop below freezing for several hours. This will be the coldest night since January 14 and the first freeze of the season for the city of Houston and many outlying suburbs. A Freeze Warning has been issued for all of southeast Texas.

This will not be a hard freeze; your pipes will be fine. However, it will be cold enough to damage tender tropical plants if they are not covered. And your pets would probably enjoy spending the night indoors.

It will be near freezing again Wednesday morning, but the temperatures should slowly warm throughout the rest of the week.
