It happened around 10:30pm Saturday at the intersection of Wilcrest and Westheimer.
Police say the officer was on his regular patrols when his cruiser slammed into a red pickup that pulled out in front of him.
According to officials, the driver of the pickup was pulling out of a parking lot and went across Wilcrest in front of the officer.
Neither the officer nor the other driver was hurt in the crash.
The roadway was blocked for several hours as crews cleaned up the scene.
Authorities say the driver of the pickup will be ticketed for failing to yield the right of way.
