Lagrange St. gas station assailant identified, arrested

Surveillance video showed a clear picture of the attack. In the video, Laguell Pettis enters the Stop'n Go, cashes her check, and puts the money inside her shirt, all while a man watches her closely. As she leaves, the man follows, and then brutally attacks her, shoving her to the ground, dragging her, robbing her, and then fleeing on his bicycle.

Police have arrested the man in the video, 34-year-old Donald Atwell. According to the police report, Atwell hid under a porch on Bancroft. Police had to use mace and a Taser to calm him down before the arrest could take place.

Pettis suffered bruises and a twisted ankle during the attack. After avoiding arrest for five days, her attacker now faces multiple charges. Atwell is being held in the Lucas County jail on charges of robbery and resisting arrest.

Stop'n Go manager Tom Ridi says this should serve as a warning to criminals to stay away. "Fortunately, we have the security camera here in the store, 24/7, recording in high definition. We have a lot of cameras."
