Yesterday, firefighters at the HFD Academy put on a demonstration to show how fast mishandled fireworks can lead to a fire.

First, remember that fireworks are illegal within Houston city limits and some surrounding cities. Fireworks may also be illegal in certain unincorporated parts of Harris County.

"Basically it is illegal in the City of Houston and even parts of the county they are completely illegal," said Captain Beda Kent with the Houston Fire Department. "You can be fined starting at $500 up to $2,000."

For people who live in areas allowing personal fireworks, remember to use them carefully and follow instructions.
