Firefighters battle 2-alarm apartment fire in SW Houston

The two-alarm fire destroyed dozens of apartment units in southwest Houston

HOUSTON -- Firefighters battled a two-alarm apartment fire in southwest Houston today.

The fire broke out around 1:30pm at a complex on South Richmond near Oak Park Boulevard. When fire crews arrived, they found heavy fire on the third floor and fire in the attic. There was heavy fire, water and smoke damage to the second and third floor.



At least 20 units on those floors suffered heavy damage. Those who lived in the the damaged units will be moved to empty ones.



Everyone who was inside was able to get out safely. Firefighters did have to rescue a dog that was stranded on a balcony.



HFD's arson bureau is investigating the cause of the fire.
