HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A Spring ISD student was shot, and a suspect has been detained after deputies responded to reports of juveniles fighting in a parking lot near a school Monday morning.

The Harris County Constable Precinct 4's Office said there was a heavy police presence in the 19700 block of I-45 North Freeway at the Burger King near Spring High School.

That scene has since cleared, but emergency responders and Spring ISD police were spotted in another location, on Spring Point Drive.

According to Constable Mark Herman, deputies received a report of juveniles fighting in the parking lot and found a 17-year-old boy with a gunshot wound.

In an update, Spring ISD confirmed one of their students had been involved in the incident, sending ABC13 the following statement:

"This morning, McNabb Elementary and Spring High School were placed on 'Secure' status while law enforcement investigated criminal activity near the Spring High campus. Tragically, the incident resulted in one of our students being injured in a shooting near the Topgolf Spring venue located on 560 Spring Park Center Blvd, Spring, TX 77373. The student was transported to a nearby hospital and is currently in stable condition, our thoughts are with them and their family during this difficult time. Law enforcement is actively investigating the situation.
The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. Counseling services are available for those needing support."

Pct. 4 said they have identified a possible suspect and are working with Spring ISD police throughout the investigation.
