LA PORTE, TX (KTRK) -- At least 12 people were injured when a construction tent blew over during this morning's storms, according to the La Porte Police Department.

It happened before 7:30am in the 13000 block of Bay Area near Fairmont at the Kuraray America, Inc.

Contract workers were assembled beneath a construction tent, when wind, a downdraft, or some suspect a funnel cloud swept through. The tent was sent flying, but so was scaffolding that was part of the construction project.

La Porte EMS Chief Ray Nolan says everything from planks to parts began to rain down on the workers. Four ambulances were called. In all 11 workers were taken to hospitals for assessment and treatment, if needed. A 12th person went to a free-standing emergency clinic, and was treated and released.

None of the injuries are reported to be life-threatening. It's unknown if any of the workers have been admitted to the hospitals.

The company had no comment on the incident.
