Mass adoption in Harris County
Fifty children were adopted today in Harris County. Jeff Ehling reports on the life-changing day for these kids

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- It's National Adoption Awareness Month and more than 50 kids in Harris County got exactly what they wanted -- a forever home.

Most days family court is not a happy place, but today it is. Fifty children from the Houston area are now members of their adoptive families.

This is National Adoption Awareness Month and each year at this time Harris County Family Courts hold a mass adoption. The event brings out plenty of smiles and a few tears, but it highlights a serious need.

Right now, in Harris County, more than 1,200 kids are waiting for adoption. Statewide it's close to 7,000.

For those getting adopted, it's the best day of their lives. Bryanna Osborne has new family. She said, "It means a lot for me because I have a beautiful family and they love me and they are just willing to do anything for me and become my new parents."

Last year, nearly 1,000 kids were adopted in the Houston area. There are always more kids than families.
