Scattered showers Thursday could help wash away some wildfire smoke

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Our hot, humid, and hazy weather continues Thursday, but we have a slightly higher chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. There is a gray haze in the sky, and that is smoke from the wildfires over the Pacific Northwest.

Overnight we could again observe patchy dense fog, especially west of Houston. Low temperatures will bottom out in the mid 70s. With a little extra moisture in the air, showers will start forming along the sea breeze front in our coastal counties around the noon hour. Those showers will then march through some Houston-area neighborhoods during the early afternoon. Your chance of rain is 40%. Those showers should help cap off high temperatures in the mid 90s for most with a peak heat index closer to 105.

How long will these daily rain chances stick around?

All the way into next week! Afternoon rain chances will range from 30-40% through Sunday, the climb to 60% Monday when a batch of tropical moisture blows overhead. That moisture will depart on Tuesday, and as a heat ridge builds back in, temperatures should start climbing back toward 100 degrees at the end of next week.
