ABC13 Weather Watch Saturday, storms could bring street flooding

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- With another round of scattered showers and storms expected Saturday, it's an ABC13 Weather Watch Day with the potential for storms to bring gusty winds, lightning and heavy rains that could lead to street flooding.

Saturday we could wake up to a few showers along the coast before another batch of thunderstorms develop in later in the day. Strong storms could develop as early as 9 a.m., mainly north of Houston, with storms bubbling up throughout the day. If you have outdoor plans through the early evening, this is something you have to be aware of as storms could bring heavy rains, lightning and strong wind gusts at times. Temperatures Saturday will fluctuate too depending on the rain, but generally highs will top off in the mid-upper 80s. And it'll feel quite steamy with the humidity. Heat index values in the afternoon could make it feel like the triple digits.

How does the weather look for Saturday and Father's Day?

Scattered thunderstorms are predicted for Saturday with what's left of the front still stalled out nearby plus a weak upper air disturbance spinning overhead. Your chance of getting measurable rain is at 60%, but the threat of street flooding and impacts to outdoor events has made Saturday an ABC13 Weather Watch. Highs should only peak in the upper 80s due to the widespread clouds and rain-cooled air those storms will spread through Southeast Texas. For Father's Day, moisture levels will be dropping, so there's only a 30% chance of a shower or thunderstorms. With less clouds and more sunshine, highs will again heat up into the low 90s. A Heat Advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. Saturday and could be extended into Sunday as well.

What's the outlook for next week?

Next week is the first official week of summer and it's surely going to feel like it! Once we get through some of the storms over the weekend, next week is trending to be drier and hotter too. A heat dome will set up over west Texas that will also keep Southeast Texas hot with morning lows starting in the mid-upper 70s and afternoon highs climbing into the low-mid 90s. The humidity levels will fluctuate each day during the work week, so some days could have Heat Advisories too.

What are you tracking in the tropics?

NHC is monitoring the remnants from Arthur as it moves off the Carolina coastline over the weekend. There is a low chance for redevelopment. Get the latest track and how much rainfall we can expect in our tropical update Tropical Update page for our daily tropical weather discussion and forecast.
