U.S. Open Cup: Revs beat Union on penalties; FC Dallas leave it late

TheNew England Revolutionbeat thePhiladelphia Union4-2on penaltiesto advance to the U.S. Open Cup semifinals.

Diego Fagundez found Je-Vaughn Watson from a set piece and the midfielder's left-footed shot from the center of the box to the bottom right corner beat Union goalkeeper Andre Blake to make it 1-0 ahead of the break.

Kei Kamara was dangerous throughout the second half, calling Blake into action once from 18 yards out and again from just inside the penalty area with a curled shot that the Philadelphia keeper parried away.

The visitors scored in injury time with a pair of substitutes connecting to force extra time. Sebastien Le Toux found Fabian Herbers in front of the Revs goal and the Union's No. 11 slotted home to make it 1-1.

After 30 minutes of added time, the Revs got the better of the Union in the penalty shootout, with Watson hitting the decisive kick after Le Toux and C.J. Sapong had missed for Philadelphia.

An early penalty got theChicago Fireoff to the perfect start as they went on to beat NASL's Fort Lauderdale Strikers3-0.

Diego Restrepo fouled David Accam in the penalty area, and Accam stepped up and blasted a shot from the penalty spot to the upper-righthand corner of the goal.

The hosts doubled the lead in the 35th minute, as Accam became provider when he found Michael de Leeuw who finished from close range to make it 2-0.

Just after the break, the Fire pulled further away when a rebound fell toKhaly Thiam and he tapped in to put the game out of reach for the Strikers.

The Fire are into the U.S. Open Cup semis for the 12th time and the fifth time in six years.

With the match looking like it was headed to extra time, Castillo sliced through the Dynamo defence and beat Houston goalkeeper Joe Willis at the near post to secure the win.
