Houstonians paid tribute to legendary civil rights leader Nelson Mandela on Sunday.

A memorial was held at the Rothko Chapel, 22 years to the day from when Mandela visited the chapel to serve as the keynote speaker for an awards ceremony honoring those who worked for human rights causes.

The memorial began at 3:30pm and included a musical tribute.

Guests were also invited to light a candle in Mandela's honor.

The former president of South Africa died Thursday at age 95.
