Triathletes compete in Memorial Hermann Ironman 70.3 Texas Triathlon

GALVESTON, TX

The event started Sunday morning with a 1.2-mile swimming competition.

The swim was followed by a 56-mile bike ride along the coast and then a 13.1-mile run to the finish line at Moody Gardens.

American Richie Cunningham tcrossed first for the men with a total time of 3:48:25.

"I didn't think that I'd end up riding alone," Cunningham said. "That really hurt me, and I had to dig deep the last 10 miles."

Emma-Kate Lidbury of Great Britain had the best time for the women at 4:13:52.

"The run was the hardest part, knowing that I had those girls chasing me," Lidbury said. "They're some of the fastest girls in the sport."

The top finishers also qualify for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Las Vegas in September.
