Arsonist setting string of fires on the loose in Memorial area

HOUSTON

Authorities say a person or persons has been setting fires over the last couple of months, starting in Decmeber 2012, along an area near Memorial Drive at Dairy Ashford. To date, investigators attribute at least 11 intentionally set fires to the crime spree.

The fires, which are set in area dumpsters and apartment buildings, have investigators particularly concerned for public safety. Four of six fires set at apartment buildings were started in the complexes' stairwells, blocking escape routes for residents.

Authorities don't know if they're looking for a single arsonist, or a number of suspects working together. Investigators believe the suspect involved is likely traveling by foot and lives in the immediate area. The congested neighborhood is surrounded by busy parks, apartment complexes and schools thusly foot traffic is not uncommon.

Officials have provided a detailed map outlining the dates and locations of the fires.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for any information called in to the 713-222-TIPS (8477) or submitted online at www.crime-stoppers.org that leads to the filing of felony charges or arrest of the suspect(s) in this case.
