According to court documents, Bascom Cropp was the sole caretaker for his 7-week-old son and the twin daughters of his son's mother. The mom was changing the baby's diaper on the morning of December 7, 2011 when she noticed his upper leg was swollen. After taking the baby to the doctor, x-rays revealed both of the baby's legs were broken as well as two of his ribs.
Doctors say the baby's injuries are consistent with physical abuse over a period of time and that they resulted from torquing, twisting and squeezing with force.
Court documents state the mother says Cropp sent her text which read, "If I did it, I didn't know I was doing it. You know I'm rough sometimes and I don't mean to." Cropp initially stated he did not know how the baby received his fractures, but later said maybe he held the baby too tight and was too rough changing his diaper.
Police say Cropp told them, "I'm not scared to say that if I had know he had those things wrong with him, I wouldn't have let her take him to the hospital."
Cropp, 26, is charged with injury to a child.
Bond has been set at $5,000.
