Police investigate alleged gang rape

HOUSTON The alleged victim says she was walking to her car when she was attacked. Those four suspects remain behind bars at the Harris County Jail. Their bails were initially set at $20,000 but a judge raised it to $100,000 after three of them admitted to being in this country illegally.

No one answered the door at a north Houston apartment where a woman claims she was sexually assaulted by four men after they grabbed her from the parking lot. A woman who lives in the unit below says she heard a man believed to be the alleged victim's boyfriend confront the suspects.

"Banging on the door saying you raped my girl, you raped my girl," recalled Tiffany, the victim's neighbor.

An eyewitness called police to investigate. They arrested the foursome who appeared in court Sunday.

Jose Pachecho, Pedro, Ivan and José Caratgena are each charged with aggravated kidnapping. Prosecutors are waiting on the results of rape kit to determine which, if any, of the men will be charged with rape.

Prosecutors asked that their bonds be raised after the Cartagenas told the judge they were in the U.S. illegally. Federal immigration detainers have since been placed on all three men, who are Honduran nationals.

A prosecutor told the court, "The victim is terrified of them and lives in the same apartment complex."

Tenants we talked to were surprised to hear what happened, because they say the property is usually saturated with security.

Barbara, a concerned resident, said, "You can walk out the door and go to your vehicle and they stop you and ask you for your ID."

The alleged victim wasn't able to give police a statement before she was taken to the hospital.
