Arrest made in fatal stabbing in Katy

KATY, TX Wednesday night's bonfire and a party drew 60 young people to the back yard of a home in the 2,000 block of Saddle Horn Trail in Katy. Neighbors saw the traffic.

"There were cars coming down the street when I came in, and being Wednesday, I didn't think about kids," said neighbor Tanda Stone. "But when I came in, there were two or three cars following me down."

But at 1am Thursday, Ft. Bend investigators say there were party crashers. There was a confrontation. It was deadly.

Matthew Haltom, 20, the son of the homeowner, was stabbed to death. Two others were stabbed as well, but survived.

Terriann Carlson with the Ft. Bend County Sheriff's Office told us that the mother was home at the time. Carlson also said she didn't know if alcohol was being consumed.

Detectives think the 15-year-old who was arrested was an uninvited guest who refused to leave. He will be charged with homicide and investigators say other charges may be filed as well.

"It just makes me wonder what are they thinking, to pull guns or knives," said Stone. "Why does it get to that point. Why are they carrying them? Why do they have them?"

As for the other people who were injured, one has now been released from the hospital and the other is still in serious condition. He had to undergo survery.
