Houston civil rights activist Ovide Duncantell has died

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The civil rights activist who spent years battling duel MLK Day parades died on Thursday, just months before he finally would have seen a unified parade.

In 1978, Ovide Duncantell founded the original MLK Parade in Houston.

It was named the official parade for Houston in 2019.

Duncantell also fought to get a street named after MLK and a statue of him in MacGregor Park.
