Last known 9/11 rescue dog gets epic 'Sweet 16' day in New York City

Thursday, September 10, 2015
Bretagne is a search-and-rescue dog who, along with handler Denise Corliss, right, helped find survivors in the rubble of the 9/11 terror attacks.
Now the last known surviving rescue dog from the rescue efforts, she returned to New York with Corliss for a happier occassion: Bretagne's birthday.
Bretagne was treated to a ''dog's best day'' around the city by Bark Post and Post and 1 Hotel Central Park.
She got a grand welcome to the city, including a billboard in Times Square wishing her a happy birthday.
She stayed in the dog-friendly 1 Hotel Central Park, where she was presented with a basket of treats and toys.
She rode around the city in style in a vintage New York City taxi with her best human friend at her side.
And she was thrown a Sweet 16 birthday party that was attended by all her Texas Task Force 1 friends.
Her two-tier birthday cake was made by a dog bakery.
Bretagne devoured her cake.
Though Bretagne is now 16, Corliss said she can still act like a young puppy sometimes.
Bretagne was presented with a cobblestone at the 9/11 Memorial in her honor.
Corliss said every rescue dog deserves a special day like the one Bretagne had.
