Twin babies rescued from Massachusetts fire

MEDFORD, MA (KTRK) -- A 5-month-old set of twins were rescued from a house fire on Monday in Massachusetts, along with their family and pets. The police officers who helped the family are being hailed as heroes after running through thick smoke to rescue the family.

The fire started in the basement of the home, smothering the house in thick smoke -- all the way up to the second floor where a mother and her twin infants were trapped.

WCVB reports Medford Police Officer Paul Giordano -- one of the first to arrive - raced up the steps. The babies' mother immediately handed the children over to the officer.

Officer Sheila Quinn said, "He came down the stairs and had both infants. One in one arm and the other in the other."

A firefighter was hurt fighting the fire, but everyone got out safely, including the family's two dogs.
