‘Coyote vs. Acme’ finally reaches theaters after being shelved
Will Forte and Lana Condor reflect on the film's unexpected journey.
LOS ANGELES -- After a long and uncertain journey, "Coyote vs. Acme" is finally making its way to audiences.
The film was originally slated for release in 2023, but Warner Bros. decided to shelve the project, preventing it from reaching theaters or streaming platforms. Ketchup Entertainment later acquired the rights to the movie, giving it a path to release.
"Coyote vs. Acme" brings together several classic "Looney Tunes" characters, including Wile E. Coyote, the Road Runner, Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig and Daffy Duck among many others.
The live-action and animation hybrid project stars Will Forte and Lana Condor, both of whom expressed excitement that the film will finally be seen following years of uncertainty.
"We had worked really hard on it," Forte said. "A huge team, hundreds and hundreds of people worked really hard on it. We did our end of it, we took this amazing script and we made it an even better movie than the script was. But what else were you supposed to do? The movie's finished, it's testing really well, and then they're just like, 'We're gonna throw it in the trash.'"
The movie's story includes Wile E. Coyote taking on the Acme Corporation, the company known for providing the gadgets that repeatedly fail him.
Forte said the movie's real-life journey carries a lesson that parallels its on-screen story.

"It taught me also a valuable lesson that change can occur," Forte said. "So don't give up hope. It's like Wile E. in the movie, he never gives up. The off-screen message just mirrored the on-screen: don't give up."
Condor said the movie is designed for audiences of all ages and welcomed the opportunity to be part of a family-friendly project.
"Everyone can go," she said. "It's a great family movie, and I think that we've lost some of those recently, we've lost those big blockbuster family movies that the entire family can enjoy. For me, it's a real honor to be able to work in that space.
