Widespread wind damage as severe storms blow through Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Storms moved through our viewing area Saturday morning, bringing high winds that caused a lot of problems.

The storm sent sheets of metal from a collapsed barn flying across Warren ranch. The barn is nothing more than a pile of wood and metal, left behind at the 6,500 acre ranch in Hockley, where Ruthe Warren has lived for decades.

"We've seen similar damage with hurricanes, but never just from a storm," she said.

The Saturday morning storm uprooted a massive tree in Warren's back yard. She's grateful it fell away from her home.

"This is as bad as any storm I've been in. It's definitely as bad as any hurricane I've been in, as far as damage," Warren explained. "The winds were... I can't tell you, can't even describe how hard they were. I wish I could know how hard the winds were."

The family is forming a plan for repairs and rebuilding, grateful no livestock was injured.

Those winds wreaked havoc on other areas, as well, toppling a billboard in Katy. It crushed a fireworks stand, taking out power lines along the way.

Vendors at the Grandview Parkway Farmers' Market were setting up their tents at the time.

Vendor Paul Lebel said, "We closed up the trailer, as I got in the truck before I closed the door, I saw the billboard across the street just come down and crash to the ground."
