Harden gives Thanksgiving feast
James Harden and his mom helped start Thanksgiving the right way.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston Rockets guard James Harden, along with his mother, Monja Willis, provided a Thanksgiving feast for families Tuesday night.

The "Tex Mex Feast" catered to more than 250 men, women and children at Star of Hope's Transitional Living Center. The basketball star called up the Rockets' personal chef, Rey Darthard, to prepare the meals.

Harden says he feels fortunate to be able to give back and he's glad to have his backbone (his mother) by his side at the event.

"I'm blessed and fortunate to be in the position I'm in today," Harden said. "It's not so such the big things but the little things that really matter like time, time you can give someone is the most valuable of all. Just spending time with her and my family is important."

Willis says she's very proud of her son.

"A lot of single moms here," Willis said. "It just brings me back to where I started with my kids. I was a single mom."

The Harden's say one of their Thanksgiving traditions is to go around the table and say what they're thankful for.

Star of Hope serves more than 1,000 men, women and children in Houston every day.
