Local student art sells for $235,000 at RodeoHouston
There's a new record at the Rodeo School Art Auction

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Two new records were set at the Rodeo School Art Auction at NRG over the weekend.

Artist Andy Wei, 18, of Clements High School, had the Grand Champion art piece at the RodeoHouston student art auction. His painting "Timeless" sold for $235,000.

The painting features a cowboy and his dog.

Rodeo Houston encourages creativity and imagination at the Rodeo School Art Auction.

Meantime, Anton Zhou, 18, of Fort Bend ISD was named Reserve Champion artist. His painting "Southern Palate" sold for $221,000.

This year's winners beat out records set at the 2016 auction. The previous record-setting Grand Champion Art piece went for $185,000. The Reserve Champion piece went for $220,000.
