Catholic Charities honored volunteers at their annual meeting. It was a chance to say "hello" to incoming board members and "thank you" for the service of outgoing board members.

Mayor Sylvester Turner thanked Catholic Charities for their work in helping local flooding victims .

This year's volunteer awards were given to St Michael's Catholic Church for their work with refugees. Exxon Mobil Corporation was honored for their pro bono work.

Rene J. Mouledoux was recognized for his individual volunteer work.

And finally, possibly the cutest recipients honored on this evening; Analys Barinaga, Zoe Barinaga and Helena de la Cruz for their "Barrettes for Books" initiative.

The girls designed hair barrettes made from their old school uniforms and sold them to classmates, family and friends. The generated proceeds were then used to purchase books for the library at Villa Guadalupe Transitional Housing facility, where women veterans and their children live.
