Woman killed in hit-and-run crash in west Houston, according to police department

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A woman was found dead in the roadway overnight in west Houston follwoing an alleged hit-and-run crash, investigators say.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded to the crash just before 2 a.m. on Sunday in the 7500 block of Bellerive Drive near 6100 Marinette Drive.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a woman dead in a moving lane of traffic, police said. Houston Fire Department crews responded and pronounced the woman dead at the scene, officials said.

According to police, witnesses said the suspect left the scene before the officers' arrival. Investigators did not release any information on the reported suspect.

HPD said the investigation remains ongoing.
