HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A homicide investigation is underway after police say a woman was fatally shot by a security guard in Houston's south side Friday.
HPD responded to an apartment complex at 2111 Holly Hall just before 12:30 p.m. after receiving a call about criminal mischief in progress. Moments later, police say, the call was upgraded to a shooting.
Sgt. Charles Lamonte with HPD homicide says officers found the security guard with injuries just after arriving to the scene. Investigators say another woman was found dead inside of an apartment unit. The security guard was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. At this time, police are not sure what type of injuries she sustained.
According to investigators, a contractor arriving to do work alerted a maintenance worker about the woman inside the apartment and the maintenance worker then alerted the security guard. That's when police say the security guard went in, approached the trespasser and there was some sort of altercation during which the woman was shot and killed.
HPD says the woman has not been identified, but apartment management did not have anyone leasing the unit at the time of the shooting.
The police department believes the security guard deployed a taser at some point before the shooting. It is unclear if the woman had any weapons.
