TxDOT making plans for SH-99 expansion from Katy to Cypress

CYPRESS, Texas (KTRK) -- A busy stretch of State Highway 99 is about to get a makeover.

It's a 15-mile segment of SH-99 from the I-10 Katy Freeway north to US-290. The Texas Department of Transportation says it's become increasingly congested and needs expansion.

At an upcoming meeting, residents will hear and see the details of TxDOT's plans, with an opportunity to ask questions about the proposed changes.

TxDOT says this segment of the Grand Parkway between I-10 and US-290 opened in 2013.

It's become so busy - stretching from the Katy area, past Bridgeland, and up to the Cypress area - that TxDOT plans to expand it from two lanes to three lanes in each direction.

The work will take place within the TxDOT right of way, they say, so as not to displace residents or commercial businesses.

It's an estimated $157 million project that will take three years to complete and be paid for through toll revenue. It will also include necessary drainage improvements. If you want to know more, there will be an in-person and virtual meeting next week.

The meeting is happening next Thursday, Aug. 7, between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Steve Radack Community Center at 18650 Clay Road, Houston, TX 77084.
