Warming centers to reopen in and around Houston for second hard freeze of January

Below is a list of warming centers throughout the Houston area, including unincorporated parts of Harris County.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- As the ABC13 Weather Team has put it, the temperatures are tumbling back to the lower 20s following last weekend's winter storm. In preparation, the City of Houston has announced that multiple warming centers will be opening Friday at 5 p.m. and will run for 24 hours through the weekend.

The National Weather Service has forecasted another hard freeze for Southeast Texas, and Mayor John Whitmire said that at least 12 onveright warming centers will be fully operational providing snacks, blankets and snacks.

Officials said more than 100 city facilities will also remain open amid the freezing temperatures.

In, addition to warming center activation, Mayor Whitmire encourages all Houstonians monitor the forecast closely and practice precautions during the freeze.
