Residents at northwest Harris County apartment complex without water for more than a week

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A mother of three reached out to ABC13, desperate for help.

She and her neighbors say they paid their rent, but days later, their water was shut off, and now, they told ABC13 they can't get in touch with anybody in charge.

It's happening at the Antoine Estates apartments on Antoine Drive near West Mount Houston Road in northwest Harris County.

"I don't understand how it is okay," Jennifer Harden said. "How is it okay with three kids and no water?"

Harden said it was on July 3 when her family paid this month's rent, which multiple residents say includes water.

On July 14, she and her neighbors said water was cut off with no explanation.

They said they keep calling the company that owns Antoine Estates, but haven't gotten a response.

"I'm trying my best and it's pretty hard and I'm frustrated," Harden said. "Especially because we pay our rent. We pay our money. I go work, I'm sweating, I come home, and I'm dirty."

Housing advocate Laolu Davies-Yemitan said residents likely won't get any refunds.

"If it is a bankruptcy, it's very possible that it's making its way through but no one is going to be contacted until the judicial proceedings have occurred," Davies-Yemitan said. "It could be a long process and there's no guarantee, there would be any proceeds left."

ABC13 has been unable to confirm a bankruptcy, but, in the meantime, Harden has already started packing up the family's belongings.

"We've been paying for apartment applications, but that's a process and that still takes money, so it's like I don't know where to turn now," Harden said.

ABC13 has also been calling and emailing the company that owns the property and their attorneys. ABC13 also hasn't gotten a response.

Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis has been working with Harden, but since this property is privately owned, county officials say they can't do much.

The property is in a MUD district, so ABC13 reached out to MUD district management but hasn't heard back.
