Questions remain after 2 separate Harris Co. shootings involving 2 kids shot on same day

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A mother accused of shooting her 13-year-old son in north Harris County made her first appearance in front of a judge this afternoon.

Corissa Mouton appeared to be wiping tears from her face as the allegations against her were read aloud.

Mouton has been charged with aggravated assault of a family member after the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office said she shot her son following a "brewing" family disturbance.

It was revealed in court on Wednesday that her son was shot in the buttocks.

Precinct 4 said they got the call to respond to this around 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday on Ranch Oak Drive near the Hardy Toll Road.

The agency says Mouton admitted to shooting her son before being taken into custody.

This shooting came about an hour after the Houston Police Department responded to the shooting of a 12-year-old girl in the 7600 block of Hammerly Boulevard near Hempstead Road.

HPD says someone came by the apartment where the girl lives and fired a shot into her unit.

The girl was hit in the upper back, according to police.

ABC13 spoke to a resident who lives in the complex and heard the shooting.

She did not want her identity revealed out of fear of retaliation.

"I was sitting in my bedroom and I heard what I thought was a gunshot," she said. "It was very scary."

Nobody is in custody in that case.

HPD asks anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS.

Both children who were shot are expected to survive.
