
PEARLAND, Texas (KTRK) -- Week 9 was filled with matchups that determined playoff positioning, and in ABC13's Game of the Week, Pearland beat Shadow Creek 21-14 to claim the 22-6A district championship.
"Our goal was to be undefeated district champions, so we grinded all through summer, and now we're here, we won it," Pearland senior captain Nicholas Howard said. "We got it done. Next playoffs, we're not done yet."
Senior running back Ja'Maurey Champion had a couple of TDs on the ground and ran for over 150 yards. Jake Westmoreland connected to Dominic Teichelman, who turned out to be the game winner.
"Teaching young people that if you sacrifice and you work hard and you believe in each other and you put in work, good things can happen for them," Head Coach B.J. Gotte said. "To get to experience the return on that investment in the sense of a district championship is fun. This is one phase. We're going to enjoy it. But, you know, we know we got a lot more tough games."
North Shore beat Atascocita 47-28. 142 of Caleb Maryland's 223 passing went to Jaylen Bocar. They hooked up for two scores, and Hezekiah Johnson added four more rushing TDs.
Mustangs are 7-1 on the season and 5-0 in district. They next face 7-1 AND 5-0 C.E. King on Halloween night at Panther Stadium for the district championship.
Dickinson beat Clear Springs to improve to 8-0. Gators quarterback Lorenzo Aguirre threw for 325 yards and four TDs; he added another on the ground.
Angleton is also 8-0 on the season. Wildcats with 374 yards rushing in the win over Kempner.
La Porte beat Crosby 28-21. Bulldogs sophomore RB Sean Simon rushed for 174 yards and 2 TDs. Senior Ashton Ruffin added 137 yards on the ground.
This sets up a huge battle against Angleton on Friday night. Both Angleton and La Porte are undefeated in 11-5A D1.
Iowa Colony shut out Fort Bend Marshall. 186 of quarterback Carson White's 212 yards passing went to UH commit Jayden Warren.
Warren caught five passes, two of which he took in for touchdowns.
Memorial's Cade Gulledge scored three times in the first half in their win over North Brook. Mustangs can take the 17-6A district title with a win over Jersey Village on Saturday.
Klein Oak's Andre Philip II accounted for 376 total yards and six touchdowns. He threw for four scores and added 2 more on the ground.
The best running back in the class of 2028, Micah Rhodes, added 162 yards rushing and two TDs. The Panthers qualify for the playoffs with the win over Tomball Memorial in their final game of the season.
