Court records said the METRO driver went back on the bus, got a weapon from his backpack, then went looking for the man.
A fight broke out between the two, which escalated before Nguyen allegedly stabbed the man, court records said.
The man was taken to the hospital to receive treatment. The driver was detained at the scene as the investigation continued.
According to court records, the driver did not follow METRO protocols to de-escalate the situation, which included boarding the bus, closing the door, and calling the police.
There was no word on whether the driver was granted bond.
