Married since 1959: Love never faded for this Dickinson couple

DICKINSON, Texas -- According to United States Census data, about 1% - 2% of marriages reach 60 years.

This year, Joseph, 88, and Joanne Hagler, 85, of Dickinson reached that rare milestone. The couple wed in February of 1959. Joanne was still a high school senior at the time.

"I didn't want to wait," Joseph said with a smile on his face.

"We went to my dad's house. He asked my dad if he could marry me, and my dad said, 'I don't care what y'all do,' Joanne said, laughing.

67 years later, their love is still strong and serves as an inspiration to their daughter, Kimberly.

"To me, they deserve the gold medal of marriages, Kimberly shares.
