MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A man was sentenced to 50 years in prison after he was found guilty of violent family assault, Montgomery County officials said.

According to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, the conviction stems from a violent incident on April 18, 2025. Officials said Montgomery Co. Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a disturbance that escalated into a stabbing at a married couple's residence.

The victim told her neighbor, as well as responding deputies, that her husband, David Scardino, had stabbed her multiple times and assaulted her with metal knuckles, according to MCDAO.

Authorities said the victim was rushed to the hospital, where she was treated for life-threatening injuries, including multiple stab wounds and fractures.

According to MCDAO, Scardino's trial started on Jan. 26. During the trial, the victim testified that her husband was not the individual who attacked her, officials said.

Despite the victim's testimony, the jury heard extensive evidence, officials explained, including testimonies from neighbors, law enforcement, and medical professionals, as well as surveillance video of Scardino leaving the scene immediately after the assault.

According to officials, the jury deliberated for less than an hour on Jan. 29, finding Scardino guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon involving family violence, which is a first-degree felony. The judge in the case sentenced Scardino to 50 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice later that day, Montgomery Co. officials said.

"Cases involving family violence are often difficult and personal, but silence only allows harm to continue," District Attorney Michael Holley said. "We encourage victims to come forward and know that our office is committed to both accountability and compassion."
