MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A man is accused of shooting and killing his mother in Montgomery County on Monday morning, investigators say.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said it received a 911 call at about 5:20 a.m. from a home on Beeson Road that a family member was threatening others in the house with a firearm. Shortly after the first call, another 911 call came in reporting that a person had crashed a vehicle nearby, MCSO said.
According to investigators, the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Michael Levi Flores, had fled the home and later wrecked his vehicle nearby.
Authorities said when they found Flores, he resisted arrest and began to physically fight the deputies. Officials said non-lethal weapons were used to get Flores to comply. No deputies were injured during the incident, MCSO said.
Investigators said deputies also responded to the home, where they found a dead woman with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was later identified as 50-year-old Jana Flores, who is the suspect's mother, according to MCSO.
The suspect was taken to the hospital for evaluation, officials said, and was later booked into the Montgomery County Jail upon release for medical staff. Authorities said Flores will be charged with murder.
MCSO said its Major Crimes Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene and that the investigation is underway. Preliminary information indicates that this was an isolated incident involving family members, officials said, adding that there is no threat to the public.
