Man accused of breaking into Rice Village businesses, leaving $160k worth of damage, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A suspect has been arrested in connection with several burglaries near the Rice Village area that were broken into on Monday morning, according to the Houston Police Department.

Investigators said 24-year-old James Baldwin was detained after surveillance video captured him breaking into one of seven businesses that called in regarding a break-in around 7 a.m.

According to court records, Baldwin smashed several doors and windows at at least three establishments, causing $160,000 in damage.

All the businesses were located on a stretch of road in the 2500 block of Nottingham Drive. ABC13 went to the scene of the break-ins on Tuesday and found several with boarded-up windows.

Baldwin has been charged with criminal mischief and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday evening, according to records.
