HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston police say the man accused of murdering the mother of his unborn child has been arrested.
Kevin Faux, 24, was charged with capital murder last week after remains were discovered in Chimney Rock Park that sources believed to be those of 23-year-old Ashanti Allen.
Allen, who was 8 months pregnant, was last seen on April 10.
According to the Houston Police Department, investigators discovered the woman's body at Chimney Rock Park at 9 a.m. Thursday.
Investigators said they learned that Faux is the father of the victim's unborn child.
Faux was arrested on Monday morning in Louisiana and is currently being held at the Jefferson Paris Correctional Center, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
Court documents obtained by ABC13 detail what happened between the time Ashanti went missing and Faux's arrest, and it's something Ashanti's mother said she knew all along.
"I told them from Day one, he has my child, and he had done something with her, Kevin Faux did something to my child," Ashanti's mom, Trisa Gaines Colbert, said.
According to court records, Ashanti's mother said she received a call from her daughter's phone early in the morning, April 10, stating, "I'm leaving and not coming back."
The text was sent just before 4 a.m., her mom told ABC13, adding that she saw that text later that afternoon and immediately went to check Ashanti's apartment.
"Everything was there, the baby clothes, the bag that she packed for the hospital, everything there, nothing was gone, so I immediately knew that my child was in danger," Gaines Colbert said.
She said Allen's vehicle was missing, and investigators said surveillance video from 2 a.m. showed Ashanti and Faux leaving her apartment complex in her car.
According to court documents, around 3 a.m., Faux Face-Timed someone, saying he killed someone and texted them, "Imma felon then I killed a person."
Ashanti's family said they reported her missing to the police that evening, but didn't wait to start looking for her.
"My son started pinging her phone; her phone was pinging at Kevin Faux's mom's house," Gaines Colbert said.
Court documents also reveal HPD later recovered Ashanti's car next to Faux's mother's house.
By April 12, records showed Faux arrived in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, by bus to visit a woman. The woman told investigators that Faux said he was "involved in a missing persons case" in Houston involving his "baby mama" and asked her "not to look it up."
By April 14, documents revealed the woman in Louisiana contacted authorities about Faux, adding that he was also using Ashanti's debit card.
On April 16, her family said Ashanti's remains were found at Chimney Rock Park after nearly a week of searching for her. Ashanti's mom said she knew this would be the heartbreaking outcome from the beginning.
"He has my child, and he had done something with her, Kevin Faux did something to my child, of course, you know, you have to say alleged, but as a mother, I knew all along that he did something to my child," Gaines Colbert said.
HPD said members of the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Faux in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, on Monday, and he is now awaiting extradition to Harris County.
