MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A Montgomery County man now faces even more serious charges after being accused of secretly ending a woman's pregnancy.
Investigators said he gave abortion-inducing medication to her without her knowledge and caused the death of their unborn child.
On Wednesday, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office announced two upgraded felony charges in a case ABC13 first reported in February.
Jon Rueben Demeter, 25, was first charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His charge has now been upgraded to the performance of an abortion and injury to a child.
"He covertly crushed that medication and mixed it in a water bottle with a liquid I.V. packet, and this was done with this specific intent to cause the death of the child," Sheriff Wesley Doolittle.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies were first called to a hospital in February for reports of a miscarriage under suspicious circumstances.
"That baby, Presley Mae, was stillborn at the hospital, weighed about 55 grams," Sheriff Doolittle said.
Investigators said the woman reported that the father of her baby had secretly drugged her to end the pregnancy.
According to the sheriff's office, the alleged victim told investigators she intended to keep the baby, but she claimed Demeter wanted her to have an abortion and even allegedly offered to pay for her to travel out of state.
Investigators claimed Demeter gave the woman mifepristone, which is a hormone-blocking drug that is illegal in Texas under the state's abortion ban, and it has always been illegal to give someone without their consent.
"That investigation revealed that Jon Reuben Demeter obtained abortion medication through the Internet and had it shipped to his home," Doolittle said.
At the time of his arrest in February, Demeter's mother told ABC13 there was more to the story.

"We're not going to tell you. God knows, and that's the important part," she said.
The DA said Demeter is due in court on Thursday and expects the case to be reset to later this summer.
