HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A Harris County industrial insulation company and one of its managers were charged with felonies after they illegally dumped hundreds of pounds of waste near their facility in Independence Heights, Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen said on Thursday.
Therm-All Insulation, Inc. and Cierra Marie Cano are facing a felony each, according to Harris County court records. The records allege that after the company delivered insulation, employees dumped excess material and packaging in the 200 block of East 36th Street at the company's and the manager's direction.
Rosen said surveillance cameras caught Therm-All's employees at least once taking a forklift and unloading debris from the back of a rental truck. Court records show that a man on a scooter served as a lookout.
After being approached by detectives, the company voluntarily cleaned up the debris and obtained more dumpsters for future waste, Pct. 1 said.
"Illegal dumping harms entire communities," Rosen said. "And we all depend on the environment being clean, so that we can live healthy lives."
Illegal dumping can carry a penalty of up to two years in prison and a fine.
Detectives said the investigation by the precinct's Environmental Crimes Division is ongoing, so more charges are possible.
