HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston police said it is working to track down two suspects after a man was nearly robbed of his gun on the city's west side on Tuesday.
The Houston Police Department said that at about 4 p.m., a man who had been doing some target practice at Top Gun was followed back to his apartment about a mile away on Rampart by three suspects.
Police say once at the complex, the suspects held a gun on the man and tried to grab his bag that had a couple of guns in it
The man retrieved a gun and fired one shot, hitting one of the suspects in the chin, HPD says.
Police said the suspect was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.
HPD said the remaining two suspects fled the area on foot after leaving their getaway car behind.
Police say all of this serves as a warning.
"I always advise people anytime you leave a business that's a high-value store or bank, jewelry store, watch behind you, go down a deserted street, like a residential street. If a car is following you, don't go home. Call 911, go to a police station. Try to make yourself not a victim,"HPD Lt. Larry Crowson said.
Robbery investigators said they are working to obtain surveillance videos to identify the suspects.
