Pedestrian dies after being hit along Houston's Washington Avenue area

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A woman was killed Wednesday morning while trying to cross the street in Houston's Washington Avenue area, police said.

The Houston Police Department said a woman was trying to cross the roadway in an unmarked crosswalk in the 2400 block of Summer Street when she was hit by a black Chevy Tahoe.

HPD said the woman was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the Tahoe stayed at the scene, did not show signs of intoxication, and was let go after being questioned.

SkyEye13 was over the area, where a heavy law enforcement presence was spotted.

An investigation is still ongoing in the case.
