Former Pasadena officer avoids prosecution by surrendering license: HCDAO
PASADENA, Texas (KTRK) -- ABC13 has confirmed through the Pasadena Police Department and Harris County District Attorney's Office that a now-former officer was able to avoid prosecution by turning in his peace officer license.
"Former Sgt. Michael Palitz has surrendered his Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) license, subject to an agreement with the Harris County District Attorney's Office," a spokesperson from that office said. "This means he is no longer a licensed peace officer in the State of Texas."
Palitz is the officer that ABC13 has been reporting on for weeks for allegedly using Flock cameras to track the movements of a female co-worker.
This is the first time Eyewitness News named Palitz because no law enforcement agency had done so before Wednesday afternoon.
His alleged actions were first brought to ABC13's attention by Pasadena City Councilman Emmanuel Guerrero in July.
ABC13 learned at that time that Palitz was able to resign from the Pasadena Police Department as the investigation was ongoing.
Neither the Harris County District Attorney's Office nor the Pasadena Police Department would confirm whether the surrender of his license was directly related to his alleged misuse of Flock cameras.
"The department will not be issuing any further public statements regarding this matter, as both the administrative and criminal investigations have concluded, wrote Pasadena Police in a statement to ABC13.
