Elementary teacher in Huntsville arrested for hurting 2 kids: docs

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (KTRK) -- An elementary school employee in Huntsville is facing criminal charges after allegedly hurting two children.

Court documents confirm 32-year-old Brittany King is facing two counts of injury to a child in connection with her now former job at Stewart Elementary.

On Monday, questions continue to surface at the school about the situation involving an employee that's now been fired.

"We want justice. We want to make sure that we're able to watch the video and calm our brains," loved one of one of the victims, Jocelyn Traylor, said

The family of the 5-year-old pre-k student at Stewart Elementary said they're frustrated with the lack of information. They told ABC13 that two weeks after the incident, no one had shown her family the surveillance video of what happened.

Traylor said her nephew at Stewart Elementary is afraid to go back to school after they said he was dragged face down when he wasn't ready to leave the school's playground by an adult who was hired to care for and protect children.

"To drag him by his feet is unacceptable in order to get him inside the school is absolutely unacceptable," Traylor said. "So instead of using a proper regime, not sure the protocol at Stewart Elementary...there should have been something in place for her to have a conversation with someone if she needed assistance if the tantrum was that bad."

Documents detail that on April 16, King allegedly dragged a boy face down by his feet from under a slide through mulch and then swatted him on the butt multiple times.

On the same day, King is accused of hurting another child by grabbing her by her arm and pushing her down a slide. Documents show King also dragged the girl from a playhouse by her leg.

"We want straight facts about what took place," Traylor said.

Huntsville ISD confirmed the employee was fired on April 20 after being on administrative leave. The district said she was a campus support staff member.

District officials said that upon hearing what happened on April 16, they notified families, CPS, and the TEA.

"The safety and well-being of students remain Huntsville ISD's highest priority. The district's established procedures for responding to concerns involving student welfare were followed and functioned as intended," district representatives told ABC13.

Court documents show a pre-k teacher was the one who realized what was happening and reported the situation to the administration, and took the children to the school's nurse.

"What are the proper procedures so this never happens to another child again, because this isn't the first one, it was two," Traylor said.

Eyewitness News asked this same question to district officials and is awaiting a response.
